Pallet racking is just pallet racking?

Some people will tell you pallet racking is all pretty much the same. And if one manufacturer's beams fit another manufacturer's uprights, it's safe to use, right?

Truth is, there's a lot more to pallet racking than meets the eye. Which components are compatible and which aren't  isn't always obvious to the naked eye. Beam loadings depend not just on the dimensions of the beam, but on the thickness of the steel that's used to make them. Uprights that have been hit by a truck may look safe, but are they still as strong?
